Meet The Owner

Brittany Torain

I am a compassionate, loving, go with the flow woman who adores children, yet can be firm at times if required. I have one child of my own and she is 9 and seem to attract the angel eyes of little kids. I enjoy bringing my love of art, dance, outdoors, healthy foods, a Cool style learning and exploration to children. Interactive choices and empowering others to be confident in their own freewill while still being respectful and honoring of those around them is key. I love the opportunity to get messy, loud and energetic with children… and we clean up afterward, knowing that we had a good, full day.

Meet Ms. Sabrina

Sabrina Skelton is a passionate educator of infants and toddlers along with being a mother to 4 of her own children. Her work began over 15 years ago where she worked for family members as their preferred babysitter to which she took pride and joy in. She has recently volunteered at Paul’s House, an Early Childhood Education Center of Sheltering Arms, where she was recently nominated and will soon serve as a board member to the agency. Sabrina is currently a student at BMCC where she will graduate this August with her Associates in Early Childhood Education with a specialization in infant and toddlers (Birth to 3). She obtained her a CDA from the CUNY School of Professional Studies with a specialization in Infant and Toddlers which she obtained in 2019 while pregnant with her youngest child. Her involvement in advocacy stretches across platforms, she served on the Executive Committee Head Start Policy Council, under the New York City Department of Education, she served as chairperson of Personnel Practices while her children were enrolled in the Sheltering Arms Early Head Start and Early Learn program.

She served as the Vice President of BMCC’s Teacher Education Club. Recently she became a co-author alongside professors in the Teacher Education Department of BMCC. The article, “Preparing Infant-Toddler Professionals: 5 Essential Elements”, will be featured in the journal Young Children in an upcoming issue. Upon graduation from BMCC, she will continue her studies at Brooklyn College dual majoring in Early Childhood and Special Needs Education from Birth to second grade. She aspires to continue working for children and families, advocating and ensuring they have a quality of education for all.

Our mission is teaching your child to love, learn, share, be positive, and most of all to be secure. Our nurturing and enriched patience is a daily experience here at Blake’s Playroom Daycare Inc.

Vision

The purpose of Blake’s Playroom Daycare is to provide and promote licensed, non-profit, high quality, affordable, and accessible early learning and child care programs to meet the needs of children and families in the south Bronx area .

Philosophy

The Board of Directors and staff of Blake’s Playroom Daycare inc.& Resource Centre believe that children deserve the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe, enriching environment.

Brittany began watching my son in October of 2019 when he was 4 months of age. What I appreciate most about Brittany is how patient she was with my son and how knowledgeable she was about his health, being he was born very prematurely. She was able to shed light on things I didn’t not know and suggest alternative ways of doing things to care for my child. My son quickly developed an attachment to Brittany which made me feel comfortable having him in her care. Brittany is very communicative and provides a nurturing environment, ensuring my son feels safe and loved. The daycare is always clean and up to par, she provides nutritious meals and keeps the children’s minds stimulated with hands on lessons tailored to their ages. Brittany has become family in the time that I’ve known her and I would not prefer to have someone else care for my son

My kids have been with Britney for 7 years. Throughout these years she has been promising, encouraging patient and in all loving. My children can’t go a day with out their Titi Britney. she is always willing to help I could have not been able to go to school and work had it not been for Britney. She’s the best person I know. The only person I trust wholeheartedly with my children.

My son attended Blake’s playroom for a few years and he loved it. He is a very shy child so it was hard finding a place he felt comfortable to be himself along with being safe because of all of his allergies. He felt at home there and loved the staff as well. They helped him come out his shell. I was able to go to work and not worry if he would eat or be exposed to things he were allergic to. Brittany and her staff went above and beyond to make sure his health was never at risk. I am for ever grateful to everyone there.

It has been a great pleasure joining Blake’s Playroom Daycare. In a matter of weeks Brittany has bought a sense of peace to my life. From the moment my son began escorting “Me” to the door, I knew he enjoyed being around Brittany’s energy! I expressed what I was looking for in Childcare and it was immediately delivered. I wish I would have began sooner!
